The Neptune by Kendrick Interiors showroom on St Mary’s Road may be one of the smaller Neptune spaces, but as soon as you step through the doors, you are surrounded by quality, a calming palette and immaculate design.
Everything you see in the shop, from the roof boarding to the tiles underfoot, is available for your own design. ‘As with all Neptune stores, the space is designed to feel like a home,’ explains Joanna Camp of Kendrick Interiors. ‘Customers have the opportunity to recreate the look completely, from the paint on the walls, to the ceiling and floors, even the radiators and switches. It’s all available, making it the place to go for a beautiful solid wood kitchen, or for interior pieces, or just for some home inspiration.’ It certainly is a beautiful space, and we were keen to find out how the collaboration between Kendrick Interiors and Neptune came about. ‘Kendrick Interiors was founded in 2021 by Richard Kendrick and myself,’ explains Joanna. ‘The journey began with Richard’s experience in kitchen installations, his passion for woodwork, and his dream of owning a workshop. I joined soon after, managing communications and social media, while Richard crafted furniture and bespoke kitchens. Our focus was, and continues to be, on providing personalised, high-quality service and creating products that we are proud of.’ Richard and Joanna were keen to keep the business a duo, but as demand for their services expanded (growing from a barn at Joanna’s home to a 2000sq ft space in Kibworth) they decided that something had to change. ‘We are both keen cyclists and climbers and love the outdoors, so we wanted to find a way of continuing our business, and have more time for fun, too!’ says Joanna. ‘In an effort to keep it just us for now, we decided that outsourcing our manufacturing would be the best way to keep Richard’s close connection to the build.’ Joanna and Richard were on the lookout for a kitchen company to team up with. A brand that matched their ethos, and sold products they could believe in. Although Neptune was the top of their list, they thought it was a pipedream. ‘Neptune is a huge name and a brand that we really love,’ says Joanna. ‘Both in terms of the fundamentals of the company, the products and homely stores.’ In October 2023, a shop space became available on St Mary’s Road that was within Joanna and Richard’s budget. The only problem? The shop was far smaller than the converted old buildings and pubs Neptune usually inhabits. ‘We reached out to Neptune and were amazed they came to visit!’ explains Joanna. ‘Two lovely ladies spent three hours in the space with us, chatting through our journey, what we believed in and wanted to achieve. They thought the shop was small, but they told us they saw the potential in Market Harborough and saw the brand in us. We were invited to their Wiltshire headquarters (worth a visit if you’re that way) and we showed them the plans for the shop, which they loved. With a limited budget, we did all the work ourselves, completely renovating the space, installing the cabinetry and styling the products with all the lovely Neptune furniture and accessories.’ With Neptune on board, a beautiful new showroom and shop created, what can customers expect from a visit? ‘If you know Neptune, we are your local, mini version. The store offers a unique opportunity to explore all three distinct kitchen collections. It’s not just a kitchen showroom though, as we also have a curated selection of Neptune homewares too – lots of which are hidden in the kitchen cupboards and drawers! You can also discover our latest directory featuring the full range of Neptune products, which are all available through us. We offer full kitchen design service (including kitchen installation) and we are here to guide you through every step of your kitchen project, making the experience enjoyable and stress-free. We also offer our home design service, if you have a project in mind beyond the kitchen. Then of course, we are also a retail space for everything Neptune, from furniture and paint, to cushions and candles!’ Although Kendrick Interiors have not been part of the Harborough community for long. They already feel at home and are thrilled with the space they found. ‘There was a lot of appeal in the shop, not least the double bay fronted windows and the beautiful tree outside,’ says Joanna. ‘We love being close to the Eco Village and near so many great bars and restaurants. It feels like a secret little escape just a short walk from the market square, where people can step away from the bustle of town and really feel relaxed. We want customers to feel welcome and at home, enjoying the delightful scents and treasures we have to offer. We are really looking forward to working on the next beautiful kitchens and interiors around the area. But fundamentally, we just want this shop to be a place you want to be and want to come back to!’ |
