In a nutshell, what is Valerie’s Homemaking?
Valerie’s Homemaking is a lifestyle brand that brings wellbeing and comfort into the home. Through my community classes and seasonal products, I focus on traditions, foraging, and less-toxic living. What inspires your brand? Growing up in midwestern America, I am inspired by my traditional, ancestral heritage. I come from a long line of pioneers and was raised with many skills that I want to share with others. My focus is always community, teaching, keeping traditions alive and bringing joy into the home. What will you be doing over the next few months and into next year? I am excited to be teaching a range of classes at my home in Braybrooke, including apple baking and preserving, sourdough starter and bread making, and how to make bone broth – alongside other things. I’m building my clean candle product line and will be launching my Christmas candle in October. I’ll be making seasonal candy, which will also be for sale in December. What are your hopes for the brand? I hope to help people learn new skills and give them confidence to create. Most of us don’t take time for ourselves, and I love making a space for others to do that. I want people to feel joy in their home, instead of overwhelm. My vision is to create safer products for our homes, too. What do you hope people will take away from your classes and products? I want people to feel comfortable in cooking and learning in my home. I want to pass on the extensive knowledge I have from my upbringing in America, and create that community feel here in Market Harborough. I want to help people support and source more locally-grown food and live more simply off the land. I hope people’s homes will feel more peaceful with the products I sell. Where are your favourite places in Harborough and what do you love most about the area? I love the village feel that Harborough gives. Waterloo Cottage Farm is one of my favourite places to get local meat and veg. I love sitting at the Waterfront by the canal with a drink, and I love that I bump into people I know most places I go. It truly feels like home. |
