We’ve made it through the winter and Harborough is about to start showing why it keeps getting voted one of the best places to live in the country! In no particular order, here are our favourite things to do in Harborough this Spring.
1. Take a walk down the famous Foxton Locks As well as being of significant historical interest, Foxton Locks is one of the nicest places for a Spring walk. For birdwatchers, you may also be lucky enough to spot herons, swans, swallows and kingfishers on the canal. Little ones can count the 10 locks as they walk down to the basin, then enjoy an ice cream or picnic in one of the many spots along the way. There’s even a pub if you want to extend your visit over a lazy Sunday lunch. 2. Have a blooming lovely time at Kelmarsh If you watched the latest series of Extraordinary Portraits on BBC One, you will have been treated to no end of glorious drone shots of Kelmarsh Hall – which played host to all six episodes of series 4. Just five minutes from Harborough, the Hall has regular flower festivals and stunning gardens to walk around. 3. Brunch at Bowden Stores Wonderful at any time of the year, but sitting on the green with the sun hitting your face makes it that extra-bit special. 4. Get cultured at the Nevill Holt Festival With acts from the world of comedy, music and drama – including Richard E Grant – the annual festival is set in the grounds of Neville Holt Hall with stunning views across Leicestershire. nevillholtfestival.com 5. Watch a play at Harborough Theatre The talented volunteer team at Market Harborough Drama Society will be staging Deathtrap, by Ira Levin on Tuesday 8th April to Saturday 12th April, and Bothered and Bewildered by Gail Young on Tuesday 20th May to Saturday 24th May. Head to harboroughtheatre.com or pop into the box office to book tickets. 6. Browse around an outdoor market Take a look at the Artisan Maker (last Saturday of every month) and Farmer’s Market (first Thursday of every month) on the town square to see if you can grab yourself a bargain. 7. Cheer on the Bees The exciting football season draws to a close in June, so there are still plenty of Harborough Town games to go and watch. With adult tickets at just £12 and £6 for concessions, it’s an affordable way to get behind your home team! 8. Grab an ice cream at the Waterfront Pop into Left to Draw at the Waterfront for a browse before grabbing an ice cream and going for a walk along the canal. There are multiple routes to take, and there’s always the promise of a drink at the Waterfront when you get back! 9. Cycle down Brampton Valley way Starting at Little Bowden recreation ground, the Brampton Valley Way takes you deep into the Northamptonshire countryside, through old railway tunnels and forgotten tracks. 10. Wander to the Braybrooke Beer Tap Room The Griffin Trail opened in March and is a walkers and wheels accessible pathway connecting Market Harborough to Braybrooke via the Braybrooke Beer Tap Room. Serving delicious lunches, Garage Bakehouse goodies and, of course, their very own lager. |
