Can you tell us a bit about how you first started event planning?
Pickled Events began in 2021, when we had a crazy brainwave to start a party planning company. We met whilst working in the, sometimes chaotic, world of advertising and quickly became good friends. Due to our mutual love of a glass of wine (or two), cheese and meeting people – and with a shared background in the catering/hospitality industry – we thought a company making awesome themed parties would be the perfect fit. We do love a night out after all, so why not make it our job? What can pickled events do for you? We offer a diverse range of services to ensure that our clients can focus on the important part: enjoying their event! Full event management, corporate event management, wedding planning, event consultation, children’s party planning, tablescaping, event decor, grazing tables, grazing boards, pickled picnics and even seasonal workshops and seasonal grazing boards. We are a one-stop event shop, ready to add a bit of our brand of magic into any occasion. What are your favourite events to work on? That is a little like asking us to pick our favourite dessert, nigh-on impossible! Billie loves a wedding. It allows us to really get to know our clients and even though the briefs are usually very specific, we can add our creative ‘Pickled’ flair to make it the best day of our client’s lives. Sarah loves a brief for a children’s party. We get to explore new themes, unusual ideas and work with unique suppliers. In the past we’ve had various themes from ‘woodland’ to ‘under the sea’. The crab croissants are an all-time favourite. Have you had any memorable moments so far while working on an event? Other than turning up to lots of events with cheese in our hair – and every now and then walking in on something we shouldn’t (we will say no more on this topic!) – we literally don’t stop laughing and smiling throughout all our events. With every theme we really try to get into character. From watching five seasons of a TV show to immerse ourselves in a Yellowstone-themed festival, to making our 9-month-old taste test starfish Rice Krispie cakes. We both have our set roles when leaving for events. Billie will always pack (it ends up like a game of Tetris) and Sarah likes to get in the front seat with her coffee and quiz Billie about whether she has remembered the radish flowers, which usually gives Billie a heart attack on the way to every single event without fail! We are very much a small family business, which means we love to get our other halves and parents involved wherever and whenever we can, and we are fortunate to have them as part of our wider team. From our husbands delivering hand-made cheeseboards in a wheelbarrow, to our mums waking up at 4am to help us prepare breakfast grazing tables – teamwork is exactly what keeps us going! Who would be your dream client to create an event for? As we have said, we do love a good theme, so we’ve always thought we would love to plan one of Jonathan Ross’ legendary Halloween parties. The brief would be so extravagant, meaning there would be no limit to how much creative flair we could bring to the event. Plus, the chance to meet some seriously amazing people and create the most unbelievable grazing table is one that would be a Pickled Events dream come true. What do you love about living and working in the area? We grew up in the area, so can attest first hand to the people, their community and their love for small businesses. Market Harborough, Kibworth and Rutland all have such lovely people and being in the event industry, this is so important as it is the relationships that makes our job fun! We love the variety of jobs we get in, too. From organising Christmas Wreath making workshops to afternoon tea Pickled Picnics for the fabulous glamping site ‘A Little Bit of Rough’. Every job is just as exciting now as it was on our first day and we love it. It all sounds great! What have you got coming up this season to offer our readers? Our Halloween Grazing boards and Christmas Wreath at Home workshops are now open for booking.
